Hasan Minhaj - The Daily Show Host
People are LOVING Hasan Minhaj’s guest hosting stint on The Daily Show; and a lot of them are already demanding he take over as the show’s next host. So where do YouTube views play into this?
Hasan is the 6th guest host since Trevor Noah’s departure alongside Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler, and Sarah Silverman. Several others, including Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken, and John Leguizamo, are scheduled as well. So is everyone in the comments right about Hasan being the best choice?
To find out, I did what any totally normal person would do while laying in bed on a Sunday evening. I added up the views from each guest host’s videos on The Daily Show YouTube channel. And the winner is…..Hasan! Or is he?
Sure, Hasan does have the most total views (8,242,000) across his 13 videos uploaded last week–including the highest average views per video (634,000). But hold up, Chelsea Handler isn’t far behind with 7,656,000 total views and an average of 510,400 per video. Maybe even more impressive than that she also cracked the million view mark on 3 separate videos. Hasan surpassed a million views twice but Chelsea actually has the most watched video with 1.7 million views.
Hasan clearly knows what’s up with YouTube–his own channel has 1.45 million subscribers (https://lnkd.in/gPPuRZCC) and he even invited Marques Brownlee from MKBHD Inc., an extremely popular channel with 16.7 million subs, for a segment on the show last week.
Now The Daily Show has only had three hosts in its 28 seasons (Craig Kilborn, Jon Stewart, and Trevor Noah). So admittedly, YouTube views probably aren’t near the top of the list of considerations but Hasan’s impressive engagement on the platform makes me think it shouldn’t be overlooked either.
